Worship as a Spiritual Discipline
Godliness and worship go hand in hand. Let's find out more about what worship is! =)
1) FOCUSING ON AND RESPONDING TO GOD
- Worship originated from the Saxon word, Weorthscype, which means worthship.
- What God has revealed to us that we can worship Him :
1. His Creations
2. The Bible and Jesus
2) Done in Spirit and in Truth
- Holy Spirit enables us to worship God.
- It does not matter how spiritually you are singing praises to God, or how well you pray to God.
- As long as it is not sincere, it is not worship. Worship has to be from the heart.
- “Where feelings for God are dead, worship is dead.”
- We worship God the way the bible describes Him, not what we think or want Him to be.
- How do you want to honor God in worship? By saying “It’s my duty.” ? OR “It’s my joy.” ?
- We are all called not to give up when we experience Spiritual Dryness. We are to persevere.
3) EXPECTED BOTH PUBLICLY AND PRIVATELY
- We have to meet together with other Christians to worship God.
- If we only worship God privately, we will miss out a lot of blessings and chances to see the power of God at work.
- We are also called to worship God privately as there are some experiences He can give us that we cannot experience through worshipping God publicly.
- Often, it is because we do not worship God well in our private time(QT) that we do not experience satisfying results in worshipping God publicly.(eg. Church)
- God gave us a privilege : to be able to have Jesus 24 hours. Let's cherish it!
4) A DISCIPLINE TO BE CULTIVATED
- Worshipping God throughout our lifetime requires discipline.
- We stray very easily, hence we need to discipline ourselves to worship God every day as a reminder.
- It is also a means for us to become more like God.
- People become what they focus on. Focusing on the world makes us worldly. Focusing on God makes us Godly.
- Going through a routine of worshipping God is NOT the same as practicing a Spiritual Discipline.
- Get counsel from mature Christians to help us in our walk with God.
